Firearms are growing in popularity as a preferred method of self-defense among responsible, moral, and law-abiding citizens.
Per the Second Amendment of the United States Constitution, Americans have the right to bear arms for self-defense and personal and home protection.
Our San Luis Obispo Sheriff's Office-approved CCW certification course is comprehensive and flexible in our approach to ensure we provide the best training for those who want to exercise their Constitutional rights.
Prerequisite: This is not a beginner course. Students must be able to show that they can safely manipulate and fire a handgun. Careless/unsafe gun handling is not acceptable and will be cause for removal from the class with no refund.
IF YOU REQUIRE FIREARM TRAINING: Please contact me for training and instruction on how to safely and accurately shoot your firearm, firearms safety, confident and competent firearm handling, and the fundamental rules of safe gun handling.
The San Luis Obispo County CCW course will include classroom instruction and "live fire" qualification. The class will cover the following:
Students must be able to show that they can safely manipulate and fire a handgun. Careless/unsafe gun handling is not acceptable under any circumstances and will be cause for immediate removal from the class with no refund. No exceptions!
OBJECTIVE: Course of fire and weapon manipulation evaluates shooter’s ability to safely draw (holsters are required), fire, and reload their handgun. Shooters will explain proper weapon safety guidelines. The applicant is required to demonstrate A MINIMUM proficiency level with their weapon pursuant to California Penal Code Section 26165.
LOGISTICAL REQUIREMENTS: 24 rounds ammunition, B-27 target or equivalent.
DESCRIPTION OF COURSE: This course will be fired in 5 stages. After each portion of the course, the shooter will be allowed to reload magazines/speed loaders, etc., to prepare for the next phase of the qualification.
A good quality holster IS required. You must have a safe and quality method of carry i.e.: fanny pack, purse, outside waistband, inside waistband, etc. Holsters must be able to allow the firearm to be drawn and re-holstered with one hand only!!
Stage I 3 yards - 2 rounds - Draw and fire 2 rounds at Center Mass in 7 seconds
Stage II 5 yards - 9 rounds - Draw and fire 2 rounds at Center Mass and 1 round to the head in 10 seconds (X3)
Stage III 7 yards - 4 rounds - Draw and fire 2 rounds to one target and 2 rounds to an adjacent target in 15 seconds
Stage IV 10 yards - 6 rounds - Draw and fire 3 rounds at center mass in 15 seconds (X2)
Stage V 15 yards. - 3 rounds - Draw and fire 3 rounds at center mass in 20 seconds
NOTE: Reloads will be conducted as needed, with all magazines loaded to capacity at the beginning of the course of fire. You are responsible for your ammo management.
SCORING: 20 hits (out of the 24 fired) within the “8” ring and the head required to pass. Headshots must be within the head shape above the jawline. Only 3 headshots will be counted.
NOTE: PASSING THIS QUALIFICATION MEANS THAT THE CCW STUDENT HAS MET ALL THE MINIMUM STANDARD REQUIREMENTS APPLICABLE TO THE LIVE FIRE QUALIFICATION.
Practice loading, holster drawing, running, and firing your gun BEFORE the class.

While there is no range dress code, per se, you will want to make sure you dress comfortably, but also to protect yourself from hot brass, lead particles, or debris. Here are some recommendations:
All classes are from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., with a one-hour lunch break and multiple stretch breaks during the class.
Classes are held in the Education Building at the San Luis Obispo Sportsmen's Association located at 3270 Gilardi Road, San Luis Obispo, CA.
The California CCW Permit Instruction Course Fee for the 16-Hour California CCW Permit Instruction Course is $250.00.
The California CCW Permit RENEWAL Instruction Course Fee for the 16-Hour California CCW Permit Instruction Course is $150.00.

*If you are unable to submit your forms prior to class, please bring them with you with as much information filled in as possible. This will save time during the class.
Advanced payment is preferred when you schedule your class. This helps to reduce no-shows and guarantees your seat. Payment can also be made on the day of class via cash or check or via PayPal @KellyLReeves (KLR Communications) or Zelle (kelr2000@gmail.com).
SEATING IS LIMITED! Course fees are nonrefundable. If you are unable to attend your scheduled class, you may transfer your course fee to another Ms. Defense training course or class.
*The number of firearms you are allowed to have on your permit depends upon your licensing agency (LA). Please contact your LA for more information.

* You may take the 16-hour New CCW applicant certification class and not participate in the live fire qualification if you aren't quite ready to qualify, don't have your carry weapon(s) yet, or are unable to show you can safely manipulate and fire a handgun at this time.
However, you MUST complete the live fire qualification in order to receive a CCW permit. Per California Penal Code 26165, students must complete live-fire shooting exercises and demonstrate safe handling of and shooting proficiency with each firearm that the applicant is applying to be licensed to carry.
I also offer classes for those who prefer to learn in a smaller, more exclusive, and intimate setting.
